Connemara MTB

Here’s what we will  be up to for the month’s of April and May.  If we have missed an event you’d liked added to this list please leave us a comment,  Don’t forget you need to have a cycling Ireland licence to cycle with Connemara Mtb.  Thursday night spins as usual, other spins will happen at shorter notice and these will be posted on Facebook @ Connemara mtb buddies,  always see Facebook for more details.

April 1st – Tour de Croans – Sportive road cycle in Ballintober, Co Roscommon.

April 1st-5th – Enduro riding in Malaga Spain – IN PLANNING STAGES ONLY AT MO.

April 4th – All mountain spin in Wicklow – 45kms-ish

April 6th-7th – Rd 1 IDMS in Mallow, Co Cork. National Downhill Race.

April 14th – NPS in Cong, Co Mayo – National Cross Country race.

April 20th-21st – Gravity Enduro Rd1 @ Carrick Mtn & Davagh Enduro @ Davagh forest park, Cookstown, Northern Ireland.

April 28th – NPS Killarney, Co Kerry. – National Cross Country race.

May 4th-5th – Rostrevor mtb festival, Rostrevor, Co Down.  this will include a round of the Ulster xc league,  Rd 2 of the IDMS series and a stand alone Enduro race.  A weekend not to be missed.

May 12th – Club spin from Maum village to Leeaune village over the Western way and return on the road,  40km-50km.

May 18th-19th – Gravity Enduro rd2 @ Ballyhoura mtb trails in Limerick.

May 26th – NPS Antrim & Club spin around Blackhead in Co Clare 25km-35km.

There should be something for everybody here,  if you have any questions please ask or if there is somewhere you would like to try out let us know and we will look into a spin there.

Don’t forget that from 1st Feb everybody intending to cycle with this club must have a Cycling Ireland Licence so if you have not registered yet you better get on it as the month’s of Feb and March are going to be excellent.

Feb 3rd, Advanced spin in Cullahill – DH/ENDURO riding with up-lift, or the 1st round of the Biking Blitz series in Ballinastoe, Co Wicklow (Online registration required).

Feb 10th, Rd 1 of the Connacht Mountain Biking league in Moycullen (our home race so hopefully plenty of our members turn out), Suitable for all levels or Rd 1 of the winter DH league in Fairymount Farm, Roscrea, Co Tipperary.

Feb 17th, Rd 2 of the biking blitz series in Ballyhoura, Co Limerick. We also planning riding there on the 16th and staying the night nearby if anybody interested.

Feb 24th, Rd 2 of the Connacht mountain biking league in Moorehall, Co Mayo.  Suitable for all levels.

March 2nd, The Ronan McCormack Charity Cycle Challenge.

March 3rd, Rd 3 of the Biking Blitz series in Derroura, Co Galway or Beginner/Family mtb spin in Portumna Forest park or The Ras Chonamara Sportive.

March 9th & 10th,  Irish Cycling Show,  Citywest, Co Dublin

March 10th, Rd 3 of the Connacht mountain biking league in Moorehall, Co Mayo or Rd 2 of the winter DH league in Bree, Co Wexford.

March 17th,  Rd 4 (and final round) of the Biking Blitz series in Ticknock, Co Dublin.

March 23rd, Savages spin (A Savage in the connemara mtb dictionary is someone who is able to do at least 60km of mtbing at a reasonable pace) on the Wicklow Way. Suitable for intermediates who can cover the distance.

March 24th, Rd 4 (and final round) of the Connacht mountain bike league, Venue Glenamaddy, Co Galway,  suitable for all the family.

March 30th,  Rd1 Munster enduro league, Tracton woods, Co Cork.

March 31st, Stephen Roche Atlantic Challenge.

What did I tell you,  Awesome 2 month’s ahead.

Cycle the Rás Chonamara route. On the 3rd of March  starting and finishing in Oughterard Co Galway.

There will be a 50k and a 100k option on the day, There will also be refreshments provided during the event and after the cycle in the town of Oughterard. There will be Back up provided for both cycles aswell.

Registration is from 10am to 11am in Fahertys Bar Oughterard.

Entry: €25

100km Route: Oughterard – Maam Cross – Recess – Innagh – leenaun – Maam – Maam Cross – Oughterard

50km Route: Oughterard – Maam Cross – Maam – Maam Cross – Oughterard

Sportive Charity: St Vincent De Paul

It’s 10am on April 7th 2012 and I am bricking it big style, you see I’m a straight XC (cross-country) kind of mountain biker and I’m now parked in the car-park of Djouce Woods in Co. Wicklow for the 1st Round of the inaugural Irish Gravity Enduro league.
So how did I end up here? Well I like competitive MTB racing but the races on the enjoyable trails I find are just too serious for my liking so when I read about this series I was very excited, competitive racing against my friends and club mates on the same trails at the same time as the PRO’S (and I mean serious Pro’s like Joe Barnes and Jérôme Clémentz.).
